ILAS Mexico
Established 1980
ILCHISA was the first plant that the group established abroad. The factory stands in an area of the Chihuahuan Desert originally settled by Mennonites, an Anabaptist group originating from Germany, who created a veritable kitchen garden there in the desert. The factory soon became a key element in the development of cattle ranching across the State of Chihuahua.
The Mennonites had incorporated cheese-making into their agricultural success story, but at the time had no use for the accumulation of whey generated in the process. But it was this yellowish liquid that played a significant role in our decision to set up in Mexico. The German settlers could never have imagined that a Spanish group would turn up offering good money for what seemed to them no more than a troublesome by-product.
So ILAS had a triple success: we were able to solve the Mennonite’s problem, our factory has provided great support to the growth of cattle farming in the area, and we created what today is a thriving business as the only provider of demineralised whey in Mexico.
Activity
Manufacture of demineralized whey, milk powder and butter oil.
